Caroline's Carry-On Issue #1

Caroline's Carry On

Bite-sized travel tips, hidden gems, and destination inspiration delivered to your inbox.

If you're receiving this email, it's because you've worked with me as your Fora advisor previously. Before you click unsubscribe, I can assure you that these emails will not be too frequent. If you know me personally, you know how hard it is for me to get out a blog post, let alone constant newsletters.

I hope to send these out quarterly or every few months to update you on travel deals I've found or new ways we can work together. I'll also share itineraries from past trips that you can easily replicate. You can share them with your friends and family who are looking to book travel for the coming year. But, of course, no hard feelings if you want to skip them!

Why Me? Who Am I?

If you're wondering why you should book with me (or continue to book with me), I bring over a decade of experience in the travel industry. I've written multiple guidebooks on the Southeast specifically and I run my own award-winning travel website on the region.

My work with Fora allows me to give you the "travel writer experience" with all the perks and logistics without needing to change careers. You'll receive custom itineraries and as much or as little planning as you need. Just read the reviews on my site!

If that sounds good, you can reply to this email or click on the client intake form below!

Thanks for reading this far!

Industry Predictions for 2027

Expedia has released data about the destinations and trends it's following for the coming year and it's pretty exciting! There's an extensive list of places they're seeing bookings, including Lake Tahoe, Isla Holbox, and Niagara Falls. I've traveled to all three in the past few years, so I get the appeal! I've linked to what I've written about them.

They're also seeing a rise in the adult summer camp vibes (think rustic but upscale settings with plenty of activities), theme parks beyond Disney adulting, lesser-visited wine regions, skillcations (another subject I recently covered!) and football season travel.

Looking for deals? I've got those too. Here are just a few that I'm seeing on my end:

  • 20% off hotels in Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos if you travel by the end of the year
  • discounts on cabin rates and on-board perks for passengers with National Geographic x Lindblad Expeditions traveling before fall 2027
  • 20% off Tablet Hotels all over Japan

Just Back From

I've admittedly not been traveling as much this year as in previous years, but the past few months have taken me to a few places you might like. First was Panama, pictured above, which has all the things you love about Central America (beaches, wildlife, coffee) and a direct flight on Copa from Atlanta! I was also in Western North Carolina, which is back and ready for visitors following Hurricane Helene two years ago. It has a new resort, Cataloochee Ranch, which brings the summer camp experience but with upscale dining and amenities.

Where I'm Booking Travel

I've recently booked clients weekend getaways to Las Vegas (for the Backstreet Boys at the Sphere!) and New York City (for Christmas lights and the Rockettes!). Earlier, I planned an extensive road trip through Nova Scotia. So I'm not limited to this region!

Having trouble deciding where to go? Check out my posts with ideas on where to go in Newport, Rhode Island if you love antiques and a whiskey lover's guide to Nashville and surrounds in Tennessee.

Behind the Story: June 2026 I'm just back from Fort Lauderdale, where I attended a massive tourism conference, catching up with writer friends and getting story ideas. It's a bit overwhelming, but I'm hoping that these meetings will shape the next year or two in terms of stories and travels. I was also nominated for a Spirited Award for my book, A Boozy History of Atlanta! Right now, I'm working on stories about revolving bars and restaurants, the history of an Indigenous prisoner of war in...
